We are ready!——
我清楚地记得93年9月24日那个星期五的夜晚，萨马兰奇宣布2000年奥运将在悉尼举行时，自己的苦笑与无奈。
我更是清楚地记得8年后7月13日同是星期五的夜晚，当萨马兰奇颤巍地读出“the city of Beijing”时，我有的不是激动、不是兴奋，而是如释重负。
北京的申奥口号是“新北京，新奥运”，中国在2008年奥运将会实现这个承诺。
“新北京”，北京为了办好奥运对城市的硬件和软件进行了强有力的建设。新建一流的奥运场馆、对机场、火车站、城市道路等交通基础设施进行建设和改造，大力进行环境治理、增加城市绿化，广泛开展市民讲英语活动和全民健身运动，加强科技发展，建设“数字北京”……。到时北京将会以一个更美丽、更清洁、更文明、更富裕、更现代的面孔展现给全世界。
“新奥运”，北京奥委会明确提出了“绿色奥运、科技奥运、人文奥运”三在理念。“绿色奥运”，我们会实现全面环保，包括“环境绿”、“设施设备绿”、“人的行为绿”。“科技奥运”，我们实现科技创新，实现能源清洁化（减少污染）、数字北京（提高效率）、运动器材高科技化（打造品牌、提高运动员成绩）……。“人文奥运”，北京有三千余年建城历史，是中华传统文化的典型代表，北京将会“以人为本”，使东西方文化在中国大地上碰撞与交融，实现体育与教育结合。

Torchbearer Selection Program for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games announced
(Beijing, June 23) -- The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) announced here on Saturday the torchbearer selection program for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
Beginning today, a total of 21,880 torchbearers will be selected from around the world by various organizations and entities. There are two routes for such a worldwide selection process. The first one is done through recommendations by various organizations and institutions. And the second is an open process, in which public recommendations are accepted. 福娃是北京2008年第29届奥运会吉祥物，其色彩与灵感来源于奥林匹克五环、来源于中国辽阔的山川大地、江河湖海和人们喜爱的动物形象。福娃向世界各地的孩子们传递友谊、和平、积极进取的精神和人与自然和谐相处的美好愿望。
